The European Interdisciplinary Society for AI in Cancer Research (ESAC) will hold its inaugural Annual Meeting on May 7-8, 2026, in Milan, hosted at Politecnico di Milano

It represents an important milestone for the ESAC community and is designed as a high-level scientific forum to present recent impactful innovations across all facets of AI applications in oncology.

ESAC is a pan-European and multidisciplinary initiative focused on advancing and supporting the responsible, scientifically rigorous applications of AI in cancer research and treatment.

This event represents an important occasion to network with a diverse community of peers.

The program brings together leading experts in clinical oncology, computational sciences, imaging specialists, translational research, and experts in ethics and regulatory science.

Sessions include:

  • Foundations for AI in cancer and the integration of multi-omics and multimodal data
  • AI for clinical applications
  • Methodological developments in explainable, trustworthy AI
  • Applications of large language models and agentic AI systems in oncology
  • AI-enabled drug discovery, prevention, and biomarker development
  • Digital health solutions and real-world data approaches in clinical oncology
  • Cross-cutting topics from technology transfer to ethics and patient-cantered research.

Among the sponsors of this initiative is the TEF-Health project (Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics)

The project, of which POLIMI is a partner, is funded by the European Commission and the Member States with a total budget of approximately €60 million.

It aims to facilitate and accelerate the validation and certification of artificial intelligence and robotics solutions. TEF-Health offers advanced services for dataset preparation, synthetic data generation, and validation of algorithms and models in compliance with the requirements of the AI Act, with particular attention to the trustworthiness of algorithms across multiple dimensions, including reliability, explainability, bias assessment, robustness, and usability.

In total, 51 academic and private partners from 9 European countries are involved in the project, with the objective of testing and validating technological solutions through collaboration with leading research institutions, including Clinical Research Centers.
