MSc in Design for the Fashion System
The Master’s Degree Programme in Design for the Fashion System stands out for its multidisciplinary educational project, aimed at creating fashion product-systems that are socially valuable and technologically advanced.
The programme trains designers with specialist expertise, capable of operating within a professional context structured as an integrated system of activities connected to the intermediate stages of the production chain, the upstream activities of traditional design processes, the downstream activities following garment production, and those closely related to production and technological processes.
Info
The Master’s Degree programme educates designers with a strong focus on innovation, capable of using design as a strategic tool to enhance the Fashion System and to activate design-driven innovation processes. The programme aims to develop solid expressive maturity, strong design autonomy, and critical awareness of the social, cultural, economic, and environmental impacts of design, with particular attention to sustainability and the circular economy.
The educational framework is conceived from a systemic perspective and prepares students to design complex fashion product systems, including multiple collections and different product categories. Through their creative approach, students learn to interpret the know-how and languages of companies, translating them into coherent, innovative, and sustainable solutions.
The programme integrates the themes of the twin transition, combining process digitalisation with sustainable design, which guide the structure of courses and design studios. Teaching is articulated across areas that include design cultures and practices, the evolution of artistic and cultural languages, social and consumer sciences, business culture and competitiveness models, as well as technological and engineering disciplines, with a focus on innovation in materials, processes, and digital management.
Graduates of the Master’s Degree in Design for the Fashion System find employment opportunities within companies operating in the fashion sector, particularly in professional roles related to the product system. These include product design (from trend research to the definition of garments and accessories), communication (from the development of brand identity to its dissemination across the company’s various channels of interaction, including design activities related to the creation of specific narrative constructs), and service design (from the definition of retail and omnichannel retail strategies to the design of specific customer experiences, integrating digital technologies and user-centered methodologies).
Furthermore, graduates may pursue an academic career through a PhD programme or continue their education by enrolling in a wide range of second-level Master’s programmes.
