Professor Stagni held the role of professor of Transport Technology and Economics at the University of Bologna from 1956 to 1980 (after teaching there without tenure from 1951 to 1956), and then, from 1980, at the Politecnico, where he was also Director of the School of Roads and Transport from 1983 to 1989. At the Politecnico, he then also taught Electric Traction and Transport Technology and Economics in the period 1957 through to 1964.
It should finally be noted that Professor Stagni was a respected and influential professional figure, working as a consultant for several public bodies and companies, and participating in particular, in the design and construction of the Milan underground, as well as holding various public positions.
