Location

The SoLINano lab is placed in The Physics Department of the Politecnico-sede Leonardo (building 9, basement, room 005).

Equipment

Equipment bought with Politecnico funds

  • STM microscope in liquid
  • Type 1 water deioniser (resistivity > 18 MegOhm)
  • chemical cabinet
  • AFM working inside an electrochemical cell
  • optical spectroscopy working in the electrochemical cell

Equipment made available by the departments involved in the project

  • Department of Physics (DFIS): STM system working in ultra-high vacuum
  • Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering (DCMC): surface vibrational spectroscopy (ATR –IR spectroscopy Attenuated Total Reflection, RAIRS Reflection-Absorption IR Spectroscopy, SERS – Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy)
  • Department of Energy (DENG): combined scanning tunnelling microscope and Omicron variable temperature atomic force microscope (STM/AFM) in ultra-high-vacuum with surface preparation chamber (e-beam evaporator, ion gun, heating stage) and surface diagnostics (Auger‐LEED)
  • Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (DEIB): Biologic SP-150 con VMP3B100; Potenziostat SP-150 that is able to collect currents up to 100 A. This system allows to work as a power supply with a potential range of 0.6 ÷ 5 V and currents up to ±100A.
  • Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DICA): software facilities for (i) 3D simulation of rocks at high resolution (ii) numerical modelling of micro-fluidic processes towards porous materials.
  • Department of Architecture and Urban Studies: some facilities of the LADC lab will be useful in the project: optical microscopies, tomography, thermos-hygrometry, etc.

Services provided

  • Preparation of materials and devices using electrochemical cell deposition
  • Samples and technical relations analyses

Procedures and costs of using equipment

Services to be performed on behalf of third parties can be requested by asking a member of the Management Committee (see below). The Committee shall evaluate the request and specify feasibility, alterations to make so the laboratory is able to give the required results as well as the time necessary for carrying out the task (the cost of the service shall be calculated based on this time).

Costs related to tasks performed for third parties shall be evaluated and estimated based on the request made.
