BSc in Aerospace Engineering

The aerospace engineer is the professional who designs, develops, and analyzes systems for atmospheric and space flight: aircraft, helicopters, drones, rockets, satellites, probes, and airport infrastructures. They operate in one of the most advanced sectors from a scientific and technological perspective, where innovation, safety, and reliability are fundamental elements.

Studying Aerospace Engineering means preparing to contribute to the mobility of the future by participating in the development of more efficient and sustainable aircraft, safer air transport systems, and technologies for space exploration and its many applications. Aerospace activities have a direct impact on everyday life: satellite navigation, telecommunications, Earth observation, and climate monitoring are concrete examples.

The sector is undergoing profound transformations. The growing focus on sustainability, the introduction of advanced materials and artificial intelligence tools, and the evolution of the so-called “New Space Economy” are reshaping design and production models. In this dynamic context, aerospace engineers are called upon to address complex challenges, integrating diverse competencies while ensuring high standards of quality and safety.

The degree program provides solid foundations in mathematics, physics, and industrial engineering disciplines, complemented by specialized courses in the aeronautical and space fields. Graduates are able to understand and model complex systems, analyze their performance, contribute to the design of structures and propulsion systems, and operate in high-technology industrial environments, working in multidisciplinary teams with a rigorous and scientific approach.

The programme provides a solid and progressive scientific and engineering education, integrating foundational disciplines with courses specifically related to the aerospace field. In the first years, the curriculum is focused on building the foundations of industrial engineering: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science, together with courses in mechanics, electrical engineering, control systems, and thermodynamics. These subjects enable students to understand and model the physical phenomena underlying the operation of complex technological systems.

As the program progresses, students deepen their knowledge in the core areas of aerospace engineering: flight mechanics, fluid dynamics, aeronautical and space propulsion, structures and structural mechanics, aerospace technologies and materials, experimentation, and performance analysis. The educational activities also include applied laboratories and elective courses, allowing students to tailor their pathway either toward further studies in a Master’s degree program or toward more professionally oriented areas, such as air transport management and organization.

The objective is to develop strong theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply analytical, numerical, and experimental methods, training engineers capable of integrating diverse competencies and addressing technical problems with scientific rigor and independent judgment.

Study Plan (Manifesto degli Studi)

The Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering represents the first level of a structured educational pathway that may continue with access to Master’s Degree programs, in particular in Aeronautical Engineering and Space Engineering. These programs allow students to specialize in advanced aircraft and spacecraft design, propulsion systems, lightweight structures, flight dynamics, and space missions. Graduates may also pursue first-level university Master’s programs and, subsequently, PhD programs.

From a professional perspective, graduates in Aerospace Engineering find employment in industries manufacturing aircraft, propulsion systems, and space systems, as well as in companies operating within the aerospace supply chain, both in technological and production sectors. Additional opportunities are available in companies involved in airline fleet management and maintenance, air transport services, and airport operations. The skills acquired are also valued in other high-technology industrial contexts requiring expertise in the analysis, design, and management of complex systems.

The degree qualification also grants access to the State Examination for registration in the Professional Register of Engineers. The three-year program therefore provides both a solid foundation for entry into the technical job market and the first step in an educational path leading to more advanced levels of specialization in a strategic and strongly international sector.
